Abandoned Projects

As with all makers, there will be projects that you straight up abandon.

This is the less glamorous part about being a DIYer/maker. There are times when you have to abandon projects.

I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve abandoned projects before. Sometimes things are too out of your reach with your current skill set, or maybe you just lose interest. Whatever the reason is, I’m willing to share my abandoned projects and the reasoning why I abandoned it.

Abandoned: Halo REACH Magnum

I originally wanted to design a magnum from Halo since it was one of my childhood favorite games. I always loved the feel of the pistol in the game. It gave really good visibility since it’s smaller, and it has awesome accuracy.

I decided to model the Halo REACH magnum because it looked the coolest. The Halo1 magnum was the strongest out of all the Halo games, but it was a bit lacking in aesthetics and I couldn’t find very good pictures to use as a reference for modeling.

As you can see, I got through about halfway through the modeling until I sort of dropped it. I actually forgot about this project for a while until I noticed it in my Fusion360 library. I simply lost interest in modeling it after I learned that I wouldn’t be able to make it move. I had a vision where I could design it to include a spring and stuff so that it could cock back and feel like a real magnum, but it was out of my skill set at the time. I didn’t know how I would even model that part. Of course, it wouldn’t shoot actual projectiles.

Maybe I’ll come back to this project some day since I feel more competent as a 3D modeler now.
