Cells at Work: White Blood Cell Receptor
Motivation
This was a fun little project. My brother wanted to cosplay a White Blood cell from the anime Cells At Work for Crunchyroll Expo 2018. Cells at Work was a pretty popular slice of life anime at the time that also taught people how different cells of the body functioned. It was a fun way to refresh my memory about high school AP Bio. The white blood cell receptor sat on a hat of the white blood cell and it would buzz every time it detected a pathogen or foreign object in the body.
Modeling the receptor
This modeling project was really easy since thankfully the design of the receptor is basic. It’s just a stem with a circle shaped like a lollipop. This comprised of three main parts: the circle receptor, the stem, and the mounting system.
The more difficult part was figuring out a way to mount it to the hat. Lots of other people that I’ve seen have their receptors flopping around. This was one thing I didn’t want to have happen so I made sure the mounting mechanism was solid.
It turned out pretty good!
The resulting product turned out pretty good! the receptor fit like a glove without any wobble or flop. The anchor points I made served it’s purpose.
